The 2018 CAF Confederation Cup wrapped up its midweek action with 10 matches across the continent on Wednesday, 7 March.

The headline result of the day saw Egyptian giants Zamalek suffer a 2-1 away defeat at the hands of Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha, who scored in the 16th and 77th minutes through Bezabeth Meleyo and Yared Dawit respectively.

The White Knights weren’t the only North African side to struggle, as USM Alger were held 2-2 at DR Congo side AS Maniema Union and Tunisia’s US Ben Guerdane suffered a 3-0 loss at CARA Brazzaville.

Two-time African champions Enyimba of Nigeria secured an impressive 2-0 away win over Benin’s Energie, Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors won 2-0 in Curepipe over AS Port Louis in an ‘island derby’, and Burundi’s Olympic Star held Sudanese side Al-Hilal Al-Ubayyid 0-0 in Ngozi.

Egyptian side Al Masry played to a 2-2 draw away to Tanzania’s Simba, while Libya’s Al Ittihad edged Nigeria’s Akwa United 1-0 in neutral Sfax, Tunisia.

The day’s action wrapped up in Bamako and Maputo, where Mali’s Djoliba defeated APR of Rwanda 1-0 and Mozambican side Costa do Sol were beaten 1-0 at home by South African debutants Cape Town City, who scored in the second half through Sibusiso Masina.

The return leg matches are set for the weekend of March 16-18, with the 16 aggregate winners advancing into the playoff round where they will face the 16 losers from the first round of the CAF Champions League.
