Rivers United head coach Stanley Nguma has explained why he’s looking to Osita Chikere for goals this season.
The 27-year-old striker recently scored the only goal of the match as Rivers beat Kwara United 1-0 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match in Ilorin.
Chikere is back in the NPFL having had stints with Norwegian sides Viking FK and Sogndal IL, and New Zealand club Eastern Suburbs AFC.
“He has had a stint in the Nigerian league but he is not too known here before he travelled abroad,” Eguma told the league’s official website.
“When he came back, he was looking for a breakthrough back to the league again before I saw him with an amateur team.
“I saw him and the skills he had and saw the advantages in him and said well, he is a kind of player that can hold the attack,” added Eguma.
“We’ve been working on him and you can see he has started delivering.
“I know that we have not really got the best of him so far but we’re still working on him, hoping that he will get to his peak and then he is going to be a very big plus to us in our attack.”
The former Wikki Tourists striker has hit the back of the net twice in three starts for Rivers this season.
