Algerian international Mehdi Abeid is set to undergo surgery on a shoulder injury he suffered while playing for Dijon last weekend.
The Fennec Foxes midfielder had a heavy fall from a challenge by Saint-Etienne’s Ole Selnaes and was replaced just 17 minutes into the Ligue 1 match, which ended 2-2 on March 3.
The injury has been revealed as a acromioclavicular disjunction of the right shoulder and the 25-year-old will undergo surgery in France on Friday.
The lengthy period of recovery from the operation means Abeid’s 2017/18 season is over, though he should be able to enjoy a full pre-season ahead of the next campaign in 2018/19.
The Algerian has made 19 Ligue 1 appearances for Dijon this season and will be missed by coach Olivier Dall’Oglio. He will also be ruled out for Algeria’s upcoming friendly matches.
