Mamelodi Sundowns will welcome EC Bees to Loftus Versfeld Stadium for a ‘David v Goliath’ Nedbank Cup clash on 13 March 2018, kick-off at 19h30.
Sundowns booked their place in the last 16 of the competition with a narrow 1-0 away win over National First Division side Cape Town All Stars on February 9, with striker Percy Tau scoring the only goal.
The Brazilians are four-time winners of the Nedbank Cup (1986, 1998, 2008, 2015), while in last year’s edition of the competition they were eliminated in the last 16 round after being upset 1-0 at home by Golden Arrows.
Sundowns come into the game after playing to a goalless draw away to Rayon Sport in a CAF Champions League midweek clash on March 7. The Tshwane side are unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions.
EC Bees, a team from the Eastern Cape stream of the ABC Motsepe League, defeated Mariveni United 3-1 away from home in the previous round. Themba Dlamini opened the scoring before Sipho Mtule netted a brace.
The third-tier team have set a new club record by reaching the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup - their two previous appearances in 2016 and 2017 ended in the last 32 round after defeats at the hands of Magesi FC and Orlando Pirates respectively.
In head-to-head stats, this will be the first meeting of Mamelodi Sundowns and EC Bees.
