SuperSport beat Petro to advance in CAF Confed Cup

SuperSport United defeated Petro de Luanda 2-1 in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup first-round second-leg match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa on Friday night.

As a result, South Africa's SuperSport advance to the play-off round after winning the tie 2-1 on aggregate, while Angolan side Petro is eliminated from the competition.

The hosts dominated the match from the start with Morgan Gould coming close to breaking the deadlock with a well-taken header five minutes left.

Then Thabo Mnyamane forced Petro goalkeeper Gerson into a good save with a long range shot in the 20th minute.

Petro were happy to sit back and launch quick counter attacks, but could not penetrate the SuperSport defence.

The visitors managed to contain the hosts and the score was 0-0 at the interval

It took only five minutes for Elio to break the dealdlock in the second-half and it was Elia, who scored from close range to make it 1-0 to Petro.

SuperSport then piled pressure on the Angolan side with Gerson forced to deny Aubrey Modiba and Mnyamane.

However, Gerson was beaten in the 70th minute, but the crossbar came to Petro's rescue as the ball hit the crossbar.

The hosts continued pushing and deservedly equalized through Mnyamane, who scored with a low shot to make it 1-1 for SuperSport in the 78th minute.

The momentum was with SuperSport and Mnyamane sealed the hosts' 2-1 win in the 83rd minute with a good header.
