Former French international Christian Karembeu has backed Egypt to reach the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup.
The 1998 World Cup winner made these statements during his visit to Cairo for the World Cup trophy world tour.
“The Egyptian national team can reach the World Cup semifinal,” Karembeu told Sada El-Balad satellite channel.
“African teams have already reached the quarterfinal and the next logical step for all African teams should be the semifinal,” he added.
Karembeu also believes that Egypt have a great group of players especially Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny and legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary.
He also praised Egypt national team manager Hector Cuper, saying that he’s a “great coach”.
Egypt have been drawn in Group A and will come up against Uruguay, hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia in the first round.
