Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup action saw the likes of Raja Casablanca and RS Berkane secure progression into the playoff round of the competition, while Tanzania’s Simba have bowed out at the hands of Al Masry.
The day’s action began in Rwanda, where hosts APR claimed a 2-1 victory to hold Mali’s Djoliba 2-2 across the tie, but exit on away goals, while Zambia’s Nkana defeated Algerian visitors CR Belouizdad 1-0 in Kitwe but succumbed 3-1 overall.
Moroccan sides RS Berkane and Raja Casablanca picked up impressive away results to secure progression: the former won 1-0 at Tunisia’s Club Africain to triumph 4-1 on aggregate, while the latter claimed a thrilling 4-2 win (5-3 overall) in Mauritania over Nouadhibou, with Mouhssine Iajour scoring a brace of goals.
Sudan’s Al-Hilal Al-Ubayyid came into their match against Burundi’s Olympique Star with the tie evenly balanced at 0-0, but they put up a storming performance to win 6-0 on the day and by the same score overall.
Finally, the most tense game of the day took place in Port Said, Egypt, where hosts Al Masry held Simba 0-0. The tie finished 2-2 on aggregate, with the North African side’s two away goals enough to see them through to the next round.
