MFM coach Fidelis Ilechukwu says his side has “learnt a lot of lessons” following a 6-0 (7-2 on aggregate) defeat at the hands of MC Alger in the CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian side were hopeful of qualification to the group stage after defeating their Algerian counterparts 2-1 at home in the first leg of their first round clash, but succumbed to a heavy defeat in North Africa on Saturday to exit the competition.
“We have learnt a lot of lessons in these last two matches against MC Alger and we would be looking to come back home and apply all we have learnt so that we never suffer this experience again,” Ilechukwu is quoted by the New Telegraph.
“I understand that a lot of people in Nigeria would have been disappointed and at this point I can only take full responsibility and apologise to our ever loyal fans, the Lagos State Government and Pastor Daniel Olukoya.”
MFM are not out of continental competition for 2018, as they will now ‘drop’ into the playoff round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
