Despite doing a good job, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has revealed one of his regrets since taking over the Super Eagles role in 2016.

Rohr has continued to rue his 2-0 loss to South Africa in the 2019 CAF African Cup Nations qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State last year.

The defeat became the coach’s first he suffered so far in competitive football since taking over the Super Eagles in 2016.

Rohr says Bafana Bafana were lucky to run away with a convincing victory after his side dominated the proceedings.

“I did regret the defeat, but I think South Africa were very lucky. We had more possession,” said Rohr.

“We had the better chances. South Africa scored with only their second shot – that was quite fortunate.

“Perhaps they celebrated the victory too much, because they hardly won any other game after- wards. One always has to remain modest even in victory.”

After the World Cup tournament in June, the AFCON Qualifiers will resume and Nigeria will face Seychelles away in September followed by a clash against Libya in October.
