The draw for the playoff round of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup took place in Cairo on Wednesday evening, deciding the final preliminary pairings as 32 teams battle for a place in the group stage of the competition.
There are no less than four Nigerian sides in this stage, with Plateau United taking on USM Alger, two-time African champions Enyimba have been paired with South Africa’s Bidvest Wits, Akwa United will battle Sudanese giants Al Hilal and MFM have a West African derby against Mali’s Djoliba.
Other heavyweights in the draw are DR Congo’s AS Vita, who will face Congolese side CS La Mancha, Morocco’s Raja Casablanca take on Zanaco of Zambia and Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas will battle Algerian club CR Belouizdad.
Ghanaian champions Aduana Stars have been paired with Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors, Saint George of Ethiopia take on Congo’s CARA Brazzaville, last year’s Confed Cup runners-up SuperSport United of South Africa have a challenging tie against Kenyan side Gor Mahia, and Gabon’s CF Mounana will face Egyptian opposition again, as they take on Al Masry after being knocked out of the Champions League by Al Ahly.
The first leg matches are scheduled for the weekend of April 6-8, with the return games to be played on the midweek of April 17-18. The 16 aggregate winners advance into the group stage.
