Gambia’s Kekuta Manneh has reacted to his first national team call-up to the United States team.

The winger waited five years to qualify for United States residency permit due to FIFA rules and his dream has come true.

He is part of the team that will face Paraguay in an international friendly on Tuesday next week and he has expressed happiness.

With the selection coming after the initial squad was announced, the call took many by surprise, including Manneh.

“I was at home sleeping, and the call woke me up,” Manneh said.

“I was in bed when I talked to them, and it was good news. It was exciting to get the call, and it’s a good feeling to be here with the guys. Hopefully it’s a good week.

“I think I can help the team wherever they need me.I think I can help attacking-wise, making plays and getting goals and assisting people, and just trying to be a big part of the team. Hopefully I can be a good addition.”

The winger has spent five years playing in Major League Soccer and believes he can add an attacking edge to the national team
