Bidvest Wits have handed goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs a new three-year deal as they hope to retain the experienced player beyond his playing days.
The Clever Boys CEO Jose Fereirra announced that they offered the 37-year-old net minder a new deal that will see him at the club until 2021.
Although, he has been a second choice at the Braamfontein-based side as coach Gavin Hunt prefers to use Darren Keet, Josephs will be offered a role in the technical team as goalkeeper coach when he retires.
“He’s a good goalkeeper‚ great in the change room and does not have outrageous demands‚” Ferreira said to The Sowetan.
“Should he decide he wants to hang up his gloves and join the coaching staff‚ then there is provision in the new contract for that possibility and‚ obviously‚ a different package for him.
“We have a relationship of loyalty and respect and we want to grow him into our next goalkeeper-coach.”
‘Slim Kat’ follows skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo, who recently extended his stay with the reigning Telkom Knockout Cup champions.
On the other hand, Josephs will hope to return to action when the reigning Absa Premiership champions resume their PSL league campaign against Maritzburg United on Tuesday, April 4 at home.
