Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists that Percy Tau should be the recipient of the PSL’s Football of the Year award, arguing that no one else compares to the Brazilians striker.

The ‘Downs tactician explained that he has noted “campaigning” in the media for some of the end-of-season awards, and argues that these “agendas” are not healthy for South African football.

“I don’t know how you look at it because I was listening to SuperSport 4 two weeks in a row and people are campaigning for who is the coach of the year and people are campaigning for player of the year,” Mosimane said at a Nedbank Cup press conference on Wednesday.

“It’s unbelievable, people have agendas, it’s not funny. But it’s the same culprits.

“For me can’t compare Percy Tau with anybody, give it to him. He plays Champions League and he’s scoring. He is scoring for Bafana, he is scoring in the league, he is scoring in the Nedbank Cup.

“Who do you want to compare him to? No, let’s be honest, who do you want to compare him to? Okay you can have nominees, which is good, but give it to Percy.

“He is doing it week in, week out. You can’t compare him to well rested teams. You can’t compare mathematics at lower grade and compare to someone who is doing higher grade. No, you can’t.”
