Nigeria’s international midfielder Ogenyi Onazi says he has grown in leaps and bounds since making his debut for the Super Eagles four years ago.
Onazi made his bow during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and things have been somewhat challenging while wearing the Super Eagles green.
After failing to qualify for successive 2015 and 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournaments for the first time in over 40 years, he admits the country was struggling.
“At that moment we had a lot of trouble in the country, with the federation, between the players and there was a lot of confusion in the team,” Onazi admitted to FIFA.com.
“We didn’t give up because we had the opportunity to prove we were really a team and we were able to make it.
“We just told ourselves we have to do this for everybody; we gave all our hearts from day one to the very last.”
However, ahead of the 2018 global tournament’s edition, the Tranbzonspor player added that he wants to make people happy and proud of the team.
“This is my objective in life: To make people happy and to make sure that they have hopes that things are going to be better in life,” added Onazi.
“It was a really good moment for us. We had to celebrate it very well with our captain John Mikel Obi.”
