Former Egypt and Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ has praised midfielder Mohamed Elneny after his recent performances with Arsenal and for the Pharaohs.

The dreadlocked midfielder renewed his contract with the Gunners a few days ago and was part of the Egypt squad that faced Portugal and Greece in the recent FIFA international break.

Although they lost both matches, coach Hector Cuper is preparing his men for the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Russia in June.

Mido, who previously criticised Elneny and claimed he’s not good enough to join Egypt’s squad, took to Twitter to praise the 25-year-old midfielder after his recent performances.

The former Wadi Degla manager admitted that he was wrong about Elneny and misjudged the former Basel midfielder.

He added that he’s astonished by the player’s performances, saying he is irreplaceable in Egypt’s team.

“I have closely followed Arsenal’s last three games and Egypt’s last two matches from the stadium and I have to admit that I was wrong about Elneny,” said Mido on Twitter.

“I am dazzled by the levels he offers in the last period, where he became an indispensable player for the Egyptian team. Congrats on renewing his Arsenal contract.”
