Christian Atsu’s Newcastle United look well on course to avoid relegation from the Premier League after picking up a crucial victory this past weekend.

The Magpies defeated fellow relegation battlers Huddersfield Town 1-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, with Ayoze Perez netting the lone goal in the 80th minute of the match.

Atsu appeared as a 67th minute substitute, replacing midfielder Matt Ritchie and giving the home side more energy and pace as they chased the victory in the final quarter of the match.

The win was United’s second in succession in the Premier League – following a 3-0 victory over Southampton in early March – and lifted them to the relative safety of 12th place on the log.

Atsu will look to return to Newcastle’s starting line-up for their next league clash, a challenging trip to Leicester City on Saturday, April 7.
