Cape Town City suffered their second loss in all competitions at home after a 1-0 defeat against Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership clash at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

Following the defeat, Benni McCarthy's men now sit at number six with 35 points from 25 league games.

Arrows had a better start in the Mother City as they moved the ball around nicely, but Velemseni Ndwandwe wasted a glorious opportunity from a set piece in the seventh minute.

After the 15th minute, Maxmillian Mbaeva produced a fine save to deny Lyle Lakay after beating Zolani Nkombelo on the left side.

With five minutes remaining in the opening half Lakay continued to terrorise Arrows, yet his left footed curler from the edge of the box could not beat Mbaeva.

It was goalless at the interval in the Mother City.

However, Clinton Larsen’s troops returned with hunger and found the back of the net through Lamola who received a great through ball from Danny Venter. 1-0.

After taking the lead Abafana Bes’thende allowed City to control the proceedings, but Lamola wasted two glorious chances around the hour mark.

Benni McCarthy’s charges threw everything they had to bag an equaliser, but failed to break the solid Arrows defence.

On the other hand, the victory for Arrows sees them placed at number the 11 with 30 points.
