Sundowns edge out Baroka to create clear gap at top

Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Baroka FC 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The wins sees the Brazilians extended their lead at the top of the league table, while Bakgaga remained eighth on the table.

Bakgaka stunned the the Brazilians when they broke the deadlock through Lucky Nguzana 21 minutes into the encounter.

The bulky centre forward fired past Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango with a good finish - making it 1-0 to Baroka.

However, Sundowns pushed forward in numbers and they managed to level matters through Wayne Arendse.

The defender headed home to make it 1-1 from Percy Tau's well-taken cross in the 43rd minute.

Bakgaga and the Brazilians were locked at 1-1 at the interval.

Sundowns took the lead for the first time six minutes after the restart with the Baroka defence exposed.

Sibusiso Vilakazi set-up Tau, who made no mistake as he beat Baroka goalkeeper Ayanda Dlamini to make it 2-1.

The Brazilians then dominated the entire second-half, but they wasteful in front of goal.

Themba Zwane and Jeremy Brockie were both denied by Dlamini in the closing stages of the game.

In the end, Sundowns emerged 2-1 winners over Baroka on the day.
