Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has suggested that the offside call which possibly denied his side a win at Real Madrid is something which always happens at the Santiago Bernabeu.
An incorrect offside call against Vitolo in the first half of the La Liga clash on Sunday arguably helped Real settle for a 1-1 draw, though it remains a positive result for Atletico in their battle to secure second place behind Barcelona.
“These things [the offside call] always seem to happen here,” Partey said in a post-match interview.
“I didn’t see the incident well enough on the pitch. However, from the outside I’m told it was an officiating mistake.”
The result left Atletico secure in second place on La Liga, three points ahead of Valencia and four clear of Real Madrid in third and fourth respectively.
Yet Partey reckons they still have lots of work ahead of them to ensure they are runners-up to Barca.
“There are still a lot of matches to play,” said the Ghanaian. “We’ll continue to do our work and try to get the points that remain available.
“We know that it’s not easy to stay in second, it’s not concrete yet.”
