Ajax attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech has declared his intention to leave the Eredivisie and step up to a more challenging league.

The 25-year-old has spent the whole of his professional club career in the Netherlands’ top flight, representing Heerenveen, FC Twente and Ajax.

He now feels it is time to test himself in one of Europe’s major championships, though he declined to name which country he preferred to head to.

"I think I'm ready, I've said it many times, it's not new, I want to challenge myself and develop myself, so maybe it's time to go further and find a new challenge,” Ziyech is quoted by Lions De l’Atlas.

However, he insists that he remains focused on his work with Ajax, before looking forward to the challenge of playing with Morocco at the 2018 World Cup.

“I'm going to see what's going on, my feeling is not telling me anything yet, I still have a World Cup to play, so we watch all this after... The only thing I focus on is Ajax and then the World Cup.”

Ziyech is contracted to Ajax until mid-2021.
