The CAF Confederation Cup playoff round wrapped up on Wednesday, April 18 with 12 matches across the continent and featured progress to the group stage for the likes of Aduana Stars, Enyimba, Al Hilal and Raja Casablanca.

Ghana champions Aduana Stars still cannot win away from home after going down 2-1 in Madagascar to Fosa Juniors, but they’ll have at least three opportunities to break their travel drought in the group stage of the Confed Cup, as they progressed 7-3 on aggregate.

South African sides Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United (last year’s runners-up in the competition) both exited on the away goals rule: the former held Nigerian heavyweights Enyimba 0-0 in Calabar for the tie to end 1-1 on aggregate, while the latter won 2-1 at home to Kenya’s Gor Mahia but exited with the overall score at 2-2.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal also benefited from the away goals rule, progressing to the group stage despite a 3-1 loss in Uyo against Akwa United, while Congo’s CARA Brazzaville beat Ethiopian side Saint George 1-0 to level the tie, before advancing 4-3 on penalties.

The final Nigerian side, MFM, claimed a creditable goalless draw away to Mali’s Djoliba, but still lost the tie 1-0 on aggregate, while Ivory Coast’s Williamsville held Equatorial Guinea’s Deportivo Niefang 0-0 in Bata to progress 2-0 overall.

Mozambican duo UD Songo and Costa do Sol had contrasting fortunes, as the former advanced at the expense of Sudan’s Al-Hilal Al-Ubayyid while the latter were beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, and Tanzania’s Young Africans also advanced despite losing away to Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha.

The day’s action wrapped up with two night games in Morocco, as RS Berkane beat Senegal’s Generation Foot 2-0 to level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate and advance on away goals, while Raja Casablanca cruised to a 2-0 home win over Zambia’s Zanaco to advance 4-0 overall.

The 12 aggregate winners on Wednesday completed the 16-team line-up for the group stage, the draw for which will be held in Cairo on Saturday, April 21.
