Congo’s CARA Brazzaville were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to Ivory Coast’s Williamsville Athletic Club in a CAF Confederations Cup, Group C match at the Stade Robert Champroux on Sunday night.
It was certainly not the most entertaining of matches with both sides gifting possession to their opponents due to poor passing.
Still, the home side started positively and managed to open the scoring after only 18 minutes when Iri Zan Bi found the back of the net with a clinical finish, 1-0.
After taking the lead the Ivorian team tried to push forward but they struggled to break down a resilient CARA Brazzaville defence and had to resort to shooting from long range, but with very little success.
CARA Brazzaville did not see much of the ball in the first half and were happy to make it to half time only trailing by one goal.
In the second half the visitors pushed forward a bit more but their bad decision making in the final third saw them unable to really cause any problems for the Williamsville defence.
In the end the second half really drizzled out like a damp squib as chances on goal were few and far between.
The other Group C game on Sunday night saw Enyimba beat Djoliba 2-0.
The result of this game therefore leaves Williamsville second in Group C with CARA Brazzaville in third place.
Williamsville Athletic Club are next in action in Group C of the CAF Confederations Cup on Wednesday, May 16th away to Djoliba while CARA Brazzaville will host Enyimba on the same day.
