Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia drew 1-1 against Rayon Sports and coach Dylan Kerr has expressed delight.
The CAF Confederations Cup match was staged on Sunday away in Rwanda and the hosts missed a number of chances to win the match, but the coach is still happy with his side's showing.
Gor Mahia took the lead in their Group D opener at Nyamirambo through Meddie Kagere, but Eric Rutanga made sure the points were shared from a clinical free-kick.
The Kenyan champions were the better side overall with the better chances to score a winner, yet they were not clinical and survived attacks through Ismailia Diarra and Burundian Hussein Tchabalala.
“This is a fantastic away result,” Kerr told the post-match media conference.
“Every player on the team did an excellent job to ensure we don’t lose, especially the defenders.”
Gor Mahia’s next game in the Confederations Cup will be at home against Algeria’s USM Alger who beat Yanga 4-0 in Alger on day one.
