Rwandan FA appeal FIFA ruling to pay Johnny McKinstry

Latest information regarding the battle between former Rwanda coach Johnny McKinstry and the country’s football federation is that it will not end soon.

The Rwandan Football Federation was ordered to pay former coach McKinstry a staggering US 180 000 dollars, but the FERWAFA have decided to appeal the order.

According to the BBC, the FA has filed an appeal with FIFA over an order to pay the former coach a total of US$193, 992 for an unlawful dismissal.

The world’s football governing body ruled in the Northern Irishman's favour after he was sacked in June 2016.

However, FERWAFA are of the view that the original ruling from the Switzerland-based entity is too 'harsh'.

"We were given 10 days to appeal and we did that. We are positive that the FIFA appeals committee will listen to our reasoning," FERWAFA's head of communication Bonnie Mugabe said to BBC Sport.

During his 16 months in charge of Amavubi, McKinstry led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2016 CAF African Nations Championship on home soil.

He also made it to the final of the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, where they lost to Uganda, but failed to reach the 2015 AFCON tournament in Gabon.

Should the federation fail to pay the staggering amount, then Rwanda will be banned from all FIFA-sanctioned activities as per the football governing body rules.
