Plateau United head coach Kennedy Boboye was pleased to see his side hold Akwa United to a 1-1 stalemate on Wednesday.

Cyril Olisema gave Akwa the lead in the 53rd minute, but Hamzat Owolabi equalized for Plateau in a Nigeria Professional Football League match.

Plateau were without goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, defenders Hamisu Saleh, Elisha Golbe and Salomon Junior, midfielders Benjamin Turba, Raphael Ayagwa and Ibeh Johnson and attackers Sunday Ingbede and Peter Eneji, who failed to make the trip to Uyo.

Boboye decided to field youngsters such as Bitrus Wash, Lengkat Isah, youngster Seth Mayi and Owolabi.

“It wasn’t a bad game. We played against a highly tactical side,” Boboye told the league’s official website.

“But I think our own game plan paid off for us because we got something from this game and considering the squad issue we had.”

The draw left Plateau, who are the defending champions, placed fourth on the league standings, while Akwa are placed seventh on the table.
