Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel got one over his compatriot and Super Eagles teammate Odion Ighalo in the Chinese Super League this past weekend.

Mikel led his team, Tianjin Teda, to a 1-0 away win over Ighalo’s Changchun Yatai in a league clash on Saturday.

Both Nigerians played the full 90 minutes of the match, but it was a Ghanaian who struck the decisive blow, as Frank Acheampong netted in the 81st minute to give Tianjin all three points.

The result took Mikel’s team into mid-table with 15 points from their 10 matches thus far, while Ighalo’s Changchun have 11 points.

In addition, Mikel has been nominated for the Nigeria Pitch Awards alongside the likes of Victor Moses (Chelsea), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City), Leon Balogun (Mainz 05) and Carl Ikeme (Wolverhampton Wanderers).
