Tanzania’s Young Africans are still bottom of their CAF Champions League Group D following a 0-0 draw against Rwanda’s Rayon Sport at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Wednesday night.
The goalless draw was the Tanzanian side’s first point in the competition, but it was not enough to see them off the bottom of the group.
Rayon Sport, on the other hand, claimed their second point and are joint second in Group D with Kenya’s Gor Mahia who drew 0-0 with USM Alger in the group’s other game also on Wednesday night.
USM Alger top Group D with four points.
The match itself at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium between Young Africans and Rayon Sport was a rather dull affair with chances on goal few and far between.
The home side controlled the opening half and dominated the possession stakes, but their decision making in the final third was poor with a lot of long range shots going astray.
The second half saw Rayon Sport seeing the better of the action as they began to find their feet, but much like their counterparts on the day, the Rwandan side let themselves side with poor passing in the final third.
Ismaila Diara probably came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 65th minute when his shot from the edge of the box shaved the wrong side of the Young African’s goalpost.
In the end the game flickered out and ended goalless as the two teams shared the spoils.
Rayon Sports are next in action in the CAF Confederations Cup on July 17 at home against USM Alger while Young Africans are away to Gor Mahia on the same day.
