Etoile du Sahel secured a 2-1 victory over Group D rivals Zesco United in a CAF Champions League clash at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse on Wednesday night.

The result sees the Tunisians join Swaziland’s Mbabane Swallows on four points at the top of the log, with a superior goals scored tally handing them the number one spot.

The Zambians, meanwhile, are bottom of the standings on one points thanks to their inferior goal difference compared to Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto.

The first half saw the North Africans enjoy a strong dominance of possession, though they only created a few opportunities to test Zesco goalkeeper Lameck Banda.

Etoile broke the deadlock within the opening minute of the second half, as Alaya Brigui arrived late in the box to sweep home a low cross from the right flank and put the hosts 1-0 up.

Amr Marei made it 2-0 in the 56th minute, providing a cushioned finish to another right-flank cross as the Tunisian began to show their class.

Lazarous Kambole pulled one back late on for the Southern Africans when he capitalised on a poor mistake by the hosts’ goalkeeper, but it was a mere consolation.

The teams will only return to Champions League action in July, with Etoile away to Swallows in Manzini, while Zesco will host Agosto in Ndola.
