Judgement in Ajax Cape Town’s court appeal to halt the promotion/relegation playoffs has been reserved for a later date.

The Cape side were officially relegated from the Absa Premiership when it was announced on Tuesday that they had been docked points for fielding the ineligible player Tendai Ndoro.

Their place in the playoffs was therefore given to Platinum Stars, but the Urban Warriors turned to the courts to try and have the end-of-season competition halted as they appealed against their relegation.

While Ajax were working in the South Gauteng Court on Wednesday afternoon, the playoffs got underway in Thohoyandou, where Black Leopards claimed a 1-0 win over Stars.

According to Kick-Off, Judge Raylene Keightley reserved judgement before the next playoff match between Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards, and an urgent review of the judgment handed down by the South African Football Association arbitration has been set for a later date yet to be confirmed.

All of these legal wrangles pose the danger of having the playoffs postponed to a point where are completed in July, after the staging of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
