Former Nigeria national team coach Christian Chukwu has praised the 30-man squad selected by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for the World Cup.
Nigeria’s German coach released the preliminary list of players for Russia 2018 earlier this week and his selection has impressed Chukwu, who captained Nigeria to their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980.
“Rohr must have selected those players he felt will deliver his intention of making the nation proud in Russia,” Chukwu told the News Agency of Nigeria.
However, the veteran added that the new players in the squad should have been blended into the set-up earlier on, rather than a month before the tournament gets underway.
“They should have been added early; from the beginning of the qualifying stage,” explained Chukwu.
“I don’t think it is proper to add them now due to blending issues unless they are going for jamboree.”
Nigeria will open their World Cup campaign with a clash against Croatia on June 16.
