Free State Stars defender Rooi Mahamutsa backs his former club Orlando Pirates to bag their second CAF Champions League trophy next season.

This comes after the Buccaneers reached the continental competition as they finished second in the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League term.

Pirates have joined league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in next year’s Champions League tournament and will be hoping to add their second trophy after lifting it in 1995.

Mahamutsa was speaking ahead of their Nedbank Cup final on Saturday evening at Cape Town Stadium against Maritzburg United.

A win for Ea Lla Koto will secure a spot in the Confederation Cup as they will join Kaizer Chiefs who finished third on the PSL table.

“They will have their work cut out next season to ensure they compete on all fronts,” said the defender.

“I am very happy with the way they are playing now because the players are working well with the new technical team and I am very happy that they are going back to Africa.

“I wish them well, that they can go do well like when I was there.

“I wish they can go all the way and put the second star on their jersey. It will be a good feeling for them.”

Having left the Soweto giants to revive his career in Bethlehem, the centre back was on the losing Pirates side in 2013 when they lost to Al Ahly in the final.
