Senegal star Sadio Mane believes he is reaching peak form just in time for Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid next weekend.
The Teranga Lions attacker has netted 19 goals in 43 appearances for the Reds this season and is hoping to channel the spirit of Istanbul – where Liverpool had their stunning come-from-behind triumph over AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final – ahead of facing ‘Los Blancos’ in Kiev on May 26.
“Of course. I can see it. It’s why we’re always working hard in training to get better and better,” Mane is quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“I’m trying to do my best for the team and I’ll keep working hard to help.
“It’s a dream come true to play in the final. It’s massive. It’s going to be a tough game, we all know that, but we can beat any team in the world.
“We’re going to try and do our best and why not win it?”
In regards to the 2005 final, Made said, “Did I watch it? Of course, yes.
“Everyone remembers this final because of the game. They were 3-0 down and back to 3-3. We’re going to try and do the same and win the game.
“Honestly when I was young my dream was to play in the Champions League. I watched a few finals. To have chance to play... I’m just going to enjoy it and get that trophy.”
Liverpool go into the final buoyed by having already secured their place in next season's Champions League.
And Mane added: “We deserved top four because we’ve played many good games and won lots. It was very important.”
