Having led the club to the 2017/18 MTN8 Cup semi-finals and the Nedbank Cup finals in his debut season, Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has been rewarded with a new contract.
The Team of Choice announced the news after their 1-0 Ke Yona cup loss to Free State Stars on Saturday night at Cape Town Stadium.
Speaking to the Independent Media, chairman Farook Kadodia said his coach is going nowhere despite talks that SuperSport United have indicated their interest.
Amatsantsantsa A Pitori are looking for a coach to fill the void left by Eric Tinkler who resigned in March this year.
United’s failure to win the Ke Yona cup means they missed out on CAF Confederation Cup qualification, but managed a top four finish in the Absa Premiership.
“No, no (He is not leaving). Fadlu has signed a new contract for us for a further two years. This happened last week,” Kadodia said to IOL.
“The better team lost. The guys played well. We didn’t take our chances in the small box in the first half. We played good football.
“Cup football like I said, you have to have a nose of steel. We made one mistake and we were punished. It is sad, it is cruel, but it is football.
“Goals win matches. We had plenty of chances. I can’t say more than that.
“We are not going to put pressure on the boys to win the MTN8. We need to enjoy what they’ve been doing today. They played well, but couldn’t convert the chances.”
