Nigerian attacker Moses Simon has been ruled out of the 2018 World Cup after Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr revealed that the player will be out of action for three to four weeks.
Simon, who was earlier this month named in a 30-man provisional list for the tournament in Russia 2018, suffered a thigh injury in training in Uyo last week.
The Belgium-based player underwent a scan on the injury this past weekend, and the news was not good for the 22-year-old.
"It is unfortunate Moses Simon will not be travelling with the team on Tuesday [to London] because he is down with an injury," Rohr explained over the weekend.
"The nature of his injury is such that he won't be recovering quickly enough to make the World Cup.
“We are looking at three to four weeks and thereafter starts rehabilitation training before getting to match fitness level.
“You can see that the situation is not good for him and for the team as well.”
The German tactician also revealed that Chelsea winger Victor Moses was given additional time off before joining the training camp.
“We have to be considerate with him after a long season for both club and country,” said Rohr.
“I have an understanding with him before the camp opened last week and after my recent conversation with him on Friday, I think he deserves another two days to celebrate his wedding anniversary.”
Nigeria will face DR Congo in a friendly tonight before flying out to London to face England an a World Cup warm up match on Saturday.
