Gabonese star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a hint as to who Arsenal’s next major signing may be.
The Gunners are reportedly close to securing the services of Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal are in advanced talks with the Bundesliga side over the 29-year-old centre-back, with new manager Unai Emery looking to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
The Kalamata-born player has represented the likes of AEK Athens, Genoa, Werder Bremen and Dortmund in his club career, and was also part of Greece’s squads at the last two World Cups in 2010 and 2014.
Aubameyang, who played with Sokratis for four-and-a-half seasons at Dortmund, may have given away a clue that his former BVB teammate will be the next man through the doors at the Emirates.
The Panthers striker ‘liked’ a post on Instagram which reads: “With Sokratis close to joining Arsenal, who is excited to see these 3 playing in the same team again?”
The post featured a picture of Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan (who both joined the Gunners in January this year from Dortmund and Manchester United respectively) as well as Sokratis in the famous yellow and black of the German club.
Another defender who may be on his way to Arsenal is Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner. His contract with the ‘Old Lady’ expires in June and he could be on his way to the Premier League giants on a free transfer.
