Egypt national team coach Hector Cuper says they want to clinch the full three points in their 2018 FIFA World Cup match against Uruguay.
Cuper claimed that the Pharaohs will be looking to win their first match, saying he didn’t want their most recently friendly match against Colombia to end in a draw.
Egypt escaped with a goalless draw against Colombia on Saturday in a friendly and the coach wasn’t satisfied with the result.
The North Africans are in Group A at the World Cup and will face Uruguay in their first game on June 15. Their next match is against Russia four days later and they will end the group stage campaign against Saudi Arabia on June 25.
According to an interview with ON Sport satellite channel, the Argentine declared he was eager to win against the Tricolors and will be hoping to defeat Uruguay in the first game of the World Cup.
“We are not satisfied with the result of the Colombia game, we were not trying to end the game in a draw,” Cuper said.
“We hope we can clinch the three points against Uruguay and not just one point.
“We are testing the level of the Egyptian team with these tough ties before the official matches of the World Cup.”
The North Africans faced the South Americans without key players in Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny as they struggled to create chances upfront.
Meanwhile, Cuper’s troops will face Belgium on Wednesday in their last friendly match before the biggest football competition kicks off mid-June.
