Cote d’Ivoire and ex-Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has revealed that manager Pep Guardiola was jealous of him.
The Elephants legend has accused the Citizens’ boss of having a negative view of African players.
Toure has struggled to earn sufficient playing time last season with Guardiola and the 35-year-old midfielder featured in only 10 English Premier League games this season with the champions.
The 35-year-old had some conflicts with Guardiola during their time together at Barcelona which forced him out of the Spanish giants.
Moreover, Toure could not renew his contract with Man City which expires this summer and has been linked with a move to West Ham United.
Excerpts from the former Barcelona central midfielder’s declaration to France Football were released on Monday.
“It feels like he was jealous of me, he saw me as a rival, as if I was taking the limelight away from him,” Toure said.
“He was cruel with me. Do you really think he could’ve been like that with Iniesta? It got to the point I asked myself if it was because of my colour.
“I’m not the first, other Barça players asked the question too. Maybe us Africans aren’t always treated the same by certain people.
“When you see the problems he [Pep] has often had with African players, everywhere he has been, I ask myself questions.
“He’s too intelligent to be caught. He’ll never admit it [not liking Africans]. But the day he picks a team with five Africans in, I promise I will send him a cake!.”
