Belgium Pro League star Moses Simon has emerged as a transfer target for English giants Liverpool.
The Nigerian winger has a year remaining on his contract with Gent and has been linked with a move away following a strong season in the Belgian top flight.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Simon will cost somewhere in the region of £10million and would serve as back up to fellow African stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his squad for the 2018/19 season and Simon would fit well into the Premier League giants’ style of play.
He has pace, versatility and is capable of both creating and scoring goals – he netted six and assisted three times last season to help Gent finish fourth on the Belgium Pro League log.
The 22-year-old missed out on Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup squad after picking up an injury in training last month.
He was part of manager Gernot Rohr’s preliminary selection for the global tournament but was not named in the final 23-man list earlier this week.
The Jos-born player learned his trade at the same academy that produced fellow Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa before moving to Europe to play briefly with Dutch giants Ajax, before signing with Slovakian side AS Trencin in early 2014.
A year later Simon was signed by KAA Gent and he has gone on to make over 130 appearances for the Belgian Pro League side in the past three and a half seasons.
