Speaking after their 1-0 win over Egypt, Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani says they deserved the victory and revealed why he asked for Mohamed Salah’s shirt.
The South Americans downed the Pharaohs in their opening Group A match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia on Friday.
On the other hand, the Paris Saint-Germain striker revealed that his kids love the North African who plays for Liverpool in the English Premier League.
Cavani has also admitted that he asked for Salah’s shirt following the match at Ekaterinburg Arena in Russia where defender Jose Maria Gimenez scored the winner.
Although Salah did not make an appearance despite speculation that he may be fit, coach Hector Cuper preferred to save the 2017/18 Premier League top scorer for the games against Russia and Saudi Arabia.
“I took Salah’s shirt as a gift for my children, who also see him as a star,” Cavani told reporters after the game.
“A draw would have left a bitter taste because Uruguay deserved to win. We created a lot of chances, maybe without playing so well, but the Egypt goalkeeper [had a great game] and in a moment we all fell into the feeling that the ball did not want to enter [the net].
“We won and that is what matters. We are happy although we know that we have things to improve. Now we have to rest and think on Wednesday.”
