Bloemfontein Celtic skipper and goalkeepr Patrick Tignyemb has welcomed coach Steve Komphela as he replaces Veselin Jelusic at Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Cameroon-born keeper has applauded the appointment of the former Kaizer Chiefs coach as their new coach ahead of the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League season.

Formerly in charge of Free State Stars, the former Bafana Bafana skipper has been roped in by Phunya Sele Sele on a two-year deal, two months after resigning at Chiefs.

"I am so happy about Steve being our new coach," Tignyemb told Sowetan yesterday.

"I have known him for many years and we have become friends even though we never worked together.

"He wanted me to teach him some French and that's how the friendship began. He is really a good coach and a gentleman too, I think he has all the right ammunition to do well with us and take the team forward."

"It does not take away from the fact that he is a good coach, so as players we are just looking forward to the new season."

Although Celtic could be sold to a new owner and businessman in Kimberley, Komphela's agent Tim Sukazi confirmed that the coach's job is safe.

On the other hand, speaking to Metro FM, CEO Khumbulani Konco confirmed the club's sale is still on and there are potential buyers.

“I can safely say the club will stay in Bloemfontein,” Konco told Metro FM.

“The few potential buyers that have put up their hands say the club will stay in Bloemfontein, so if that goes through, we are happy. If it doesn’t, we will continue with the club.”
