Kaizer Chiefs have announced the singing of former Baroka FC goalkeeper Virgil Vries as they prepare for the new 2018/19 Premier Soccer League season.
Following the departure of Brilliant Khuzwayo to rivals Orlando Pirates on a free transfer this month‚ Amakhosi have roped in the Namibian international to serve as Itumeleng Khune’s number two.
Chiefs confirmed the 29-year old Brave Warriors’ net minder on their social media platforms on Monday afternoon.
"Kaizer Chiefs have added a goalkeeper to the list of new signings for the upcoming 2018/2019 season. Virgil Vries arrives after a season with Baroka FC," Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung confirmed on Monday.
“After Brilliant Khuzwayo left, we wanted to get a seasoned goalkeeper to assist Itumeleng Khune.
“We have a few talented youngsters like Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen who need to work with experienced keepers. We welcome Virgil.”
Apart from the Bafana Bafana number one, Vries joins Bruce Bvuma as a goalkeeper after he was released by Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele last week
The former Maritzburg United keeper featured in 22 matches for Baroka last season and conceded 29 goals in all competitions.
