New Al Ahly coach Patrice Carteron has expressed delight after taking the coaching reigns at the Red Devils, saying he wants to win the CAF Champions League.

The French manager said he is glad to return to Egypt after he was named as Ahly’s new manager last month.

Carteron left United Soccer League outfits Phoenix Rising to take over as Ahly’s coach following the departure of Hossam El-Badry.

El-Badry resigned after the team’s 2-0 loss to KCCA in the CAF Champions League group stage, which left Al Ahly bottom of their group after two games with only one point.

Although he acknowledged they have a tough assignment in the CAF Champions league, Carteron insists they have an opportunity to lift the coveted crown.

“I am happy to return to Africa and Egypt, and to take charge of Al Ahly,” Carteron said on Sunday.

“Managing Al Ahly was a dream for me. I have three goals, first results, second results, and third results. Anything other than the results at Al Ahly is unacceptable.

“Winning the CAF Champions League is our main objective. We are currently working on getting the players ready for the tournament.”

Moreover, the coach also thanked the club’s board and staff for offering him an exceptional work environment, saying he is happy with the current technical staff that were chosen by Mohamed Youssef.
