Having parted ways with defender Bevan Fransman, Maritzburg United are reportedly trying to acquire the signature of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite.
The Team of Choice saw their skipper Fransman joining the newly promoted Highlands Park and will want Mashamaite to fill the gap.
Upon his return to the South African Premier Soccer League from his one year stint with Swedish outfit Hacken in 2016, ‘Masha’ signed a two-year deal with SuperSport United.
However, he is now looking for a club as the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup finalists opted against keeping him.
"I can tell you that Maritzburg want to sign an experienced defender and Fadlu (Davids) is interested in Mashamaite," a source told the Sunday World.
"Last season Fransman was very solid and now they want someone who will plug the gap he left."
Following the lanky defender’s departure, the Team of Choice confirmed that defender Siyanda Xulu will inherit the skipper's arm band.
On the other hand, Mashamaite will want to revive his career and get regular game time after struggling for game time at SuperSport - he made 10 appearances over the two seasons.
