News coming through from England is that Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has signed a long-term deal with Liverpool.

The Reds have announced that the Pharaohs’ international has signed a new five-year contract with the club, thus ending speculation that he is on his way to Real Madrid in Spain.

Salah signs the deal having joined the Reds for £34m from Italian Serie A side AS Roma last summer and has since scored 44 goals in 52 appearances for the club.

According to reports, his new deal will run until 2023 and does not contain a release clause.

The player has expressed delight after signing the deal.

"I'm very happy to say I have signed a new contract with the club," Salah said.

"My first year at the club was an incredible experience for me and my family. I have to thank everyone at Liverpool and also the supporters.

"I know we can achieve a lot of things together."

The 26-year-old North African player was the top scorer in the English Premier League last season, after finding the back of the net on 32 occasions, the most by a player in a 38-game campaign to walk away with the Golden Boot Award.

Moreover, Salah’ showing also helped him win last season's Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year Award and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.
