France and Belgium progressed into the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday, July 6 after beating Uruguay and Brazil respectively.
The first of the World Cup quarterfinals took place on Friday with France beating Uruguay 2-0 in the opening game at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
It was a rather comfortable performance from the European side with goals from Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann handed them the victory over a rather dull Uruguayan side who lacked punch in attack.
The second quarterfinal was a pulsating match with first half goals from Fernandinho (own goal) and Kevin de Bruyne handing Belgium a 2-1 win over Brazil at the Kazan Arena.
The Brazilians lacked their usual attacking flair in the first half and were rather poor in defence after conceding two goals in the opening half.
The Brazilians dominated the second half, but only manage a single goal from Renato Augusto as they exited the global tournament.
Belgium will now face France in the semifinals of the World Cup at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday, July 10.
Tomorrows World Cup action sees two quarterfinals taking place with Sweden taking on England in the early game while hosts Russia face Croatia.
