News coming from North Africa indicates that Italian Serie A side Juventus are set to extend Mehdi Benatia’s contract.
The Moroccan international is also being courted by European giants Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Olympique Marseille, and lately Olympique Lyon, but could stay put in Italy.
Having returned from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Benatia was uncertain about his future international career as they failed to reach the knockout stages with his Moroccan teammates.
According to Tuttosport, the Italian club is proposing a brand new contract to the 31-year-old Atlas Lion defender.
This comes after Beppe Marotta, the sports director at Juventus, said he was not ready to give up his defender two months ago and shot down rumours of a transfer.
However, according to Tuttosport, if Benatia refuses to renew his contract with Juve, the leaders of the club will begin their negotiations with Uruguayan defender Diego Godwin to replace him in the defensive hinge of the Turin squad.
If he decides to stay, Benatia may play alongside one of the best footballers of his generation in Cristiano Ronaldo with the latter rumoured to join the Serie A giants.
