Nigerian winger Moses Simon has explained that he remains a KAA Gent player despite reported interest from Liverpool prior to the 2018 World Cup.
The 23-year-old, who missed the Super Eagles’ campaign in Russia due to injury, said he is looking forward to the 2018/19 season.
Simon has recovered from the thigh injury which ruled him out of the World Cup and began pre-season training with his Belgian First Division A team earlier this week.
“Well, for now, I’m still a player of KAA Gent; obviously, there was interest from Liverpool but nothing is concrete for now,” he is quoted by AOI Football.
“I’m currently in Holland with the rest of the squad and we are getting ready for the new season.
“We have a game against PAOK in two days; hopefully, I might play in that one.”
According to media reports in early June, Liverpool was interested in paying a £10m fee for Simon as he has just one year left on his contract at Gent.
The Nigerian racked up 33 appearances with six goals and three assists across all competitions for Gent last season.
Simon, who was born in Jos, was part of the GBS Academy in Nigeria before joining Dutch club Ajax. From 2014 to 2015 he was on the books of Slovakian side AS Trencin, and then he signed for Gent for a reported fee of £585k.
