Egypt international Amr Gamal has returned to his parent club, Al Ahly ahead of their 2018 CAF Champions League clash with Botswana side Township Rollers.
The striker spent the first round of the 2017/18 season out on loan at South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Bidvest Wits.
Gamal left Wits midway through the campaign and he joined Finnish champions HJK Helsinki in another loan deal from Al Ahly.
The 26-year-old has now returned home ahead of the 2018/19 Egyptian Premier League campaign which is scheduled to start next month.
However, Gamal is not registered with CAF which means he will not feature for the Red Devils against Rollers on Tuesday.
The African giants released the following statement regarding the player:
A club statement read (translated from Arabic): Amr Gamal, the first player of Al Ahly football team, participated today in the training of players who are not registered in the African list, which was held at the stadium under the supervision of Hussein Abdel Daim, the assistant of the scheme of loads, and the appearance of «Jamal» in Tch after the end of his loan period.”
“The Ahly team is heading to Alexandria today to enter a closed camp in preparation for the Botswana clash in the third group stage of the African Champions League on Tuesday at the Burj Al Arab stadium.”
Gamal made 13 appearances in the league for Wits and he scored twice. He was named Player of the Tournament after helping the club win the 2017 Telkom Knockout Cup.
Before scoring once in 12 league appearances at Helsinki. He also played three games in the Suomen Cup.
