The 2018 CAF Champions League returned from an almost two-month break with a full set of group stage Matchday 3 fixtures played across the continent on Tuesday, July 17.
DR Congo giants TP Mazembe remain the only team with a 100 percent record, picking up a third win in Group B by beating MC Alger 1-0 in Lubumbashi thanks to a late strike from Elia Meschak.
The other game in the pool saw ES Setif claim their first three points with a 2-1 victory over Difaa El Jadidi in a North African derby.
Group A is very much under the control of Esperance de Tunis, who came from two goals down to beat KCCA 3-2 in Rades and take their tally to seven points.
They hold a three-point lead over eight-time champions Al Ahly, who crushed Botswana’s Township Rollers 3-0 in Alexandria for their first win in the group stage.
Mamelodi Sundowns, who were champions of the continent in 2016, are in trouble in Group C after going down 1-0 away to AS Togo-Port in Lome.
The Brazilians are bottom of the standings on two points, Togo-Port are third on three points and first place is shared by Wydad Casablanca and Horoya on five points apiece after they drew 1-1 in Conakry.
Group D is topped by Etoile du Sahel, whose 3-0 away win over Mbabane Swallows took their tally to seven points and opened up a three-point advantage over the Swazi team in second place.
Zesco United and Primeiro de Agosto were unable to make up any significant ground after they drew 0-0 in Ndola.
Matchday 4 will see the reverse fixtures of Tuesday’s games played over the weekend of July 27-28.
