Feyenoord’s highly-regarded Lateef Omidiji Jnr is set to make his junior international debut for Nigeria later today.
The 14-year-old has been given permission by the Eredivisie club to link up with the Nigeria U-15 squad for the African Youth Games in Algeria.
This puts him in line to play against Morocco in the Future Eagles’ first match. Nigeria are the defending champions after winning the tournament in Botswana in 2014.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, the United States, to a Nigerian father and American mother, Omidiji is rated as one of the top youth prospects in European football.
He has been linked with moves to some of the continent’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports coming out from the Nigeria U15 camp indicate that the teenager carries himself like a professional, is highly technical and tactically astute, according to All Nigeria Soccer.
There have also been calls from the national team fans for the striker to be promoted to the Golden Eaglets ahead of the 2019 Africa U17 Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria’s team in Algeria is coached by Danladi Nasidi and also features the following players: Obinna Ajah, Oluwatobi Adeleke, Ibrahim Mohammed, Moses Aluko, Sulaimon Lawal, Bala Ezekiel, Umar Suleiman, Samson Komolafe, Ismail Ayodele, Ajir Sesugh, Johnmark Aule, Dauda Hamza, Usman Ibrahim, Ahmed Abdulhakim, Anthony Okoronkwo, Divine Nwachukwu and Chidera Ejiofor.
